Brodsky Quartet
Established in 1972, the Brodsky Quartet has performed over 3,000 concerts worldwide and released more than 70 recordings.
Their insatiable curiosity has led them to explore diverse artistic directions, securing their prominent position in the international chamber music scene. Celebrating their 50th anniversary, they continue to tour extensively across major festivals and venues globally. Renowned for their performances of complete quartet cycles by composers such as Schubert, Beethoven, and Bartók, the Brodsky Quartet is particularly associated with Shostakovich's works.
Their 2012 London performance of Shostakovich's complete cycle earned them the title of 'Artistic Associate' at London's Kings Place, a residency that lasted ten years. In October 2016, they released a live recording of this cycle from Amsterdam's Muziekgebouw. Their exclusive partnership with Chandos Records has produced notable albums, including 'Petits Fours', a collection of encore pieces arranged for their 40th anniversary, and the complete Shostakovich quartets recorded live.
They have also collaborated with pianist Martin Roscoe on Elgar's String Quartet and Piano Quintet, and with vocalist Jacqui Dankworth on 'Rocking Horse Road'. Their recent release, 'Homage to Bach', features premiere recordings of Bach's Solo Violin Sonatas arranged by violist Paul Cassidy.
Beyond classical collaborations, the quartet has ventured into innovative partnerships across various genres, commissioning and championing works from esteemed composers. They have held residencies at institutions like the University of Cambridge and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where they serve as visiting International Fellows in Chamber Music.
