Pilgrims of Hope 2025

Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope

The Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee, themed Pilgrims of Hope, is a global spiritual event emphasizing renewal, unity, and faith. Held every 25 years, this Jubilee invites millions of pilgrims to Rome and beyond for prayer, reconciliation, and celebration. Pope Francis has called for deep reflection on hope, urging Catholics to embrace mercy and solidarity. The Holy Year will feature special indulgences, pilgrimages, and acts of charity. As the world emerges from crises, the 2025 Jubilee seeks to inspire renewed faith and a commitment to peace, justice, and compassion, echoing the Church’s mission to bring hope to all.

The Jubilee year will be a deeply spiritual experience in Rome and within home dioceses worldwide. Local churches will organise special Masses, pilgrimages, confessions, and acts of charity to allow the faithful to participate fully in the Holy Year. Parishes will open Doors of Mercy, encouraging reflection, reconciliation, and renewed faith. The theme, Pilgrims of Hope, invites Catholics to strengthen their commitment to Christ and their communities, fostering unity and service. Through prayer, outreach, and local celebrations, dioceses will bring the spirit of Jubilee to all, making it a transformative experience.

The Jubilee Crucifix

Every diocese is asked to place a special crucifix in the Cathedral Church for the Jubilee Year. Ours is usually found in the Lady Chapel at Osmotherley.

Lady Magdalen Eldon gifted the crucifix. She sought to buy it in Germany shortly before World War II. The owner, a Jewish antique dealer, gave the crucifix for free on the understanding that Lady Eldon would arrange safe passage out of Germany for the dealer and his family.

Thus, this crucifix is a perfect sign of pilgrimage and Christian hope in this jubilee year.

(The cross hangs on a stand designed and constructed by Ged O'Connor of the Cathedral Parish).
