Born in Bilbao, Spain, Monsignor Ricardo has lived most of his life in Middlesbrough. He went to school at St. Richard’s before qualifying as a teacher of dancing. His love is dancing, and he worked as a professional dancer at the Windmill in London in the 1960s.

It was in 1965 that he started training for the priesthood and was ordained at St. Mary’s Cathedral, the old Cathedral, in 1973. Since then he has worked mainly in Middlesbrough, in schools, hospitals, and St. Mary’s Sixth Form College.

He says,  “From the beginning of my ministry I have always left it to God to guide me by going to where I was asked to go and doing, to the best of my ability, what I was asked to do... I still love the theatre and continue to act as adjudicator of dance competitions as well as, when time permits, going to shows locally or in London.”
